SAM Children’s Day @ The Movies – Smiles that say it all

Just before Thingyan, we had the joy of bringing over 250 children from various orphanages and training centers in Yangon Region out for a special movie day – a day filled with laughter, popcorn, treats, and the simple thrill of watching a film on the big screen.
Despite the heartbreak and hardship that followed the recent earthquake, we decided to go ahead with the event. Because for these kids, this day had been eagerly awaited – something they talked about, looked forward to, and truly deserved.
Seeing their eyes light up, hearing their laughter echo through the cinema halls, and watching them clutch their snacks with excitement, it reminded us why we do what we do. It reminded us of hope.
To every sponsor and donor who chipped in – your kindness made magic happen. To our tireless volunteers – your warmth made every child feel special. Thank you for choosing joy, even during tough times.

Magic Comes Alive this Thingyan at the “Children’s Day @ The Movies!” Event

We all remember that special day when we experienced watching our first movie at the cinema. The excitement and awe that we felt preparing for the trip, the thrill of sitting in cold, darkened room in flip-out chairs. Carefully balancing the snacks and drinks while we wait for the images to appear in a larger-than-life size.

No other experience can encapsulate the days of being a child.

In Myanmar, and so many other places in the world, millions of children are not fortunate enough to have these memories to look back to. Going to the cinema is just a dream.

And so, we in SAM, in the spirit of Thingyan Festival, wish to make this possible for 250 Myanmar Children with the inaugural “Children’s Day @ The Movies” event with the support of our members and friends.

Hundreds of children will enjoy a day marked with laughter, magic and pure fun. From the bus trip to the venue, event t-shirts, tote bags filled with souvenirs, all-you-can-eat concessionaire stands, instant photos to record the day culminating with a child-friendly movie, this day will be unlike others.

We invite you to be part of this heartwarming initiative.

Final Round of Distribution of Essential Food Items and Cash Donation

We are ending our year with the an invitation to join us on the final round in a series of donation events this year 2024. This is in fulfillment of SAM’s commitment to donate MMK 45 million in essential food supplies and financial aid to 12 deserving beneficiaries, assisting them in their crucial Charity work.

This Saturday, 14 December 2024, our donation activity will be at the Kamaswal Youth Development Centre, Kamakalote Village, Kyauk Tan Township, Yangon.

We proudly welcome Grand International Investment Corporation Pte Ltd / Mr Daniel Thio who has generously pledged to equal SAM’s donation of 35 (50kg) Bags of Rice allowing an additional month of supply for the center.

3rd Round of Distribution of Essential Food Items and Cash Donation

As part of its dedication to supporting social and charitable organizations, on November 9, 2024, the Singapore Association of Myanmar (SAM) continued with its 3rd round of distribution of essential food items and cash donation to its adopted organizations.

1.⁠ ⁠Maha Gandaryone Monastic Education School

Located in Tharketa Township, the school provides basic education to over 600 students in need.

2.⁠ ⁠Visakha (Nunnery Teaching Women School)

This institution, located in East Dagon Township, serves as a residence for 35 young girls while also providing education for more than 135 students.

The activity gathered together SAM members with a shared mission to make a positive impact in the lives of those less fortunate.

The 4th round of donations is scheduled on November 23, with the final round on December 14, 2024. More information will be shared soon.

အရှေ့ဒဂုံမြို့နယ်တွင် တည်ရှိပြီး အမျိုးသမီးငယ်လေး ၃၅ ဦးအတွက် နေထိုင်ပညာသင်ကြားရာ နေရာတစ်ခုဖြစ်ပြီး စုစုပေါင်း ကျောင်သား ၁၃၅ ဦးအား ပညာသင်ကြားပေးလျက်ရှိပါသည်။

ယခုကဲ့သို့လှူဒါန်းမှုများသည် အကူအညီလိုအပ်နေသူများကို လိုအပ်သောအရာများ ကူညီထောက်ပံ့ပေးသွားမည်ဟု တူညီသောရည်မှန်းချက် ထားရှိသည့် SAM အဖွဲ့ဝင်များကိုလည်း အတူတကွ စုစည်းပေးနိုင်သော လုပ်ဆောင်မှုများဖြစ်ပါသည်။

၂၀၂၄ ခုနှစ် နိုဝင်ဘာလ ၂၃ ရက်နေ့တွင် လေးကြိမ်မြောက်လှူဒါန်းမှုအား ပြုလုပ်မည်ဖြစ်ပြီး ဒီဇင်ဘာလ ၁၄ ရက်နေ့တွင် နောက်ဆုံးအကြိမ် လှူဒါန်းမှုအား ပြုလုပ်မည် ဖြစ်ပါသည်။

လာမည့် လှူဒါန်းမှုများတွင် လိုက်ပါရန် စိတ်ပါတဝင်စားသူများအနေဖြင့် အဆိုပါ ရက်များကို မိမိတို့၏ ပြက္ခဒိန်တွင် မှတ်သားထားနိုင်သလို ပါဝင်ကြဖို့ အားလုံးကို ဖိတ်ခေါ်လျက်ရှိပါသည်။

As part of its commitment to assist and support social and charitable institutions, on 26 October 2024, Singapore Association of Myanmar (SAM) continued with its distribution of essential food items and cash donation to its adopted organizations.

The three organizations are:

1. Education Centre for the Blind

2. School for Disabled Children

3. Training School for Young Women

Giving back to the community and society at large is a principle that has always been at the heart of SAM’s mission in Myanmar.

A third donation to 2 beneficiaries will be held on 9 October (Saturday), and SAM would like to invite all members, friends, colleagues and families to join us for this meaningful event.

SAM works in a spirit of generosity and compassion. A unifying bond to support those in need.

1st of A Series of Food Care Pack Distribution 2024

As part of our effort to support and assist local organizations in their charity work, Singapore Association of Myanmar (SAM) has committed a total of 45 million MMK in basic food and cash donations to 12 beneficiaries.

On October 12, 2024, the 1st of a series of distribution was undertaken to these 3 organizations.

1) Myanmar Women Development’s Association – Established in 1947, MWDA is currently a haven for 97 orphan girls, providing educational support and skills training.

2) Catholic Home for the Aged – Established in 1923, the home has been recognized for its advocacy in caring for the elderly.

3) School for the Blind – Established in the late 1990s, the school provides academic and vocational training to over a hundred blind students.

In every visit, we are strengthened in our resolve to provide support to these inspiring organizations.

We at SAM, on behalf of its members, will continue our donation of food care packs in the month of October and November.

၁။ မြန်မာ အမျိုးသမီးများ ဖွံ့ဖြိုးတိုးတက်ရေးအသင်း – ၁၉၄၇ ခုနှစ်တွင် စတင်ထည်ထောင်ခဲ့ပြီး ယနေ့အချိန်တွင် ၉၇ ဦးသော မိဘမဲ့ အမျိုးသမီးလေးများအတွက် အတန်းပညာရေးနှင့် အသက်မွေးဝမ်းကြောင်းပညာရပ်များကို သင်ကြားပို့ချပေးနေသော ဂေဟာတစ်ခု ဖြစ်ပါသည်။

၂။ သီလရှင်လေးများ၏ ဘိုးဘွားရိပ်သာ – ၁၉၂၃ ခုနှစ်တွင် စတင်ထည်ထောင်ခဲ့ပြီး သက်ကြီးရွယ်အို အဘိုးအဘွားများကို ကြည့်ရှူစောင့်ရှောက်ပေးမှုများအတွက် အသိအမှတ်ပြုခံထားရပါသော ဘိုးဘွားရိပ်သာတစ်ခု ဖြစ်ပါသည်။

၃။ မျက်မမြင်ကျောင်း (ကြည့်မြင်တိုင်) – ၁၉၉၀ ပြည့်နှစ်နှောင်းပိုင်းတွင် စတင်ထည်ထောင်ခဲ့ပြီး မျက်မမြင်ကျောင်းသား တစ်ရာကျော်ကို အတန်းပညာရေးနှင့် အသက်မွေးဝမ်းကြောင်းသင်တန်းများကို သင်ကြားပို့ချပေးလျက်ရှိပါသည်။

အဆိုပါ လေးစားဖွယ်ရာကောင်းသော အဖွဲ့အစည်းများအား သွားရောက်လှူဒါန်းမှုပြုလုပ်ချိန်တိုင်းတွင် SAM အနေဖြင့် ၎င်းတို့ အမှန်တကယ်လိုအပ်သည်များကို လှူဒါန်းထောက်ပံ့ပေးနိုင်ရန် အမြဲတစေကြိုးပမ်းဆောင်ရွက်လျက်ရှိပါသည်။

First of a series of donations to SAM’s 12 Beneficiaries

Singapore Association of Myanmar (SAM) Flood Relief Response

We are deeply saddened by the devastation caused by the ongoing floods across Myanmar, which have impacted countless families and communities.

To assist and support the affected families, SAM has given MMK 14,150,000 to the Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS) on 18 September 2024. This cash donation will supply 100 Hygiene Parcels and 145 Basic Food Packs to families affected by the floods coursed through the extensive network of MRCS.

Each Hygiene Parcel includes sanitary napkins, toothbrushes, toothpaste, towels, soap, tissue rolls, soap cream, steel cups and combs, all packed in a sturdy cardboard box.

The Basic Food Packs include rice, oil, salt, chickpeas, and canned fish.

Our thoughts remain with the people of Myanmar and SAM stands committed to supporting the nation’s recovery from this calamity.

Recognizing the need to do more, SAM is currently in talks with other organizations to provide a more extensive and impactful relief effort.
