Donation of Oxygen Concentrators to Hospitals in Yangon

On 12 August 2023, SAM donated 23 units of Oxygen Concentrators (total value of MMK 26,680,000) to the following hospitals in Yangon with the aim of providing life-saving equipment to those in need.

Yangon Children Hospital,
Central Women’s Hospital Yangon,
Yankin Children Hospital
500–bed Specialty Hospital, Yangon and
Insein General Hospital

Among 23 units, 21 Units were utilized as part of SAM Covid-19 Response in 2021. The additional 2 Units were donated by SAM Members.

SAM Cyclone Mocha Relief Response: Donation of 200 sets of Family Hygiene Kits worth MMK 10,000,000 to the Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS)

Today (22 May 2023), SAM donated 200 sets of Family Hygiene Kits worth MMK 10,000,000 to the Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS), which will be distributed to families in Rakhine State who were severely affected by Cyclone Mocha.

According to MRCS data, 10,000 households from different states and regions are now in dire need of humanitarian assistance. Recognizing the devastation caused in the wake of this cyclone, SAM urgently tapped our resources and partners to provide the most basic but vital goods to support those in need and we will continue our efforts.

SAM’s Bicycle Donation project ‘Changing Lives with Bicycles’

On 1 April 2023, the handover ceremony for SAM’s Bicycle Donation project ‘Changing Lives with Bicycles’ was held in Myaung Mya Township, Ayeyarwaddy Region.

Singapore Association of Myanmar (SAM), with the support of our friends and corporate sponsors, donated 150 bicycles, backpacks with school stationery, essential hygiene products to students ages 11-16, who live in the surrounding villages.

The aim of this project is to give a measure of relief to the students who travels an hour by foot to and from school.

Additionally, SAM provided monetary donations of MMK 500,000 to four community-based organisations In appreciation of their selfless service to the community; Sacred Heart Free Funeral Service, St.Vincent De Paul Charity Organisation, St.Francis Xavier Boarding School for Girls and Sacred Heart Church Boarding School for Boys.

SAM Children’s Day:”Every Child in Every Heart”

“Every Child Deserves a Smile and Happiness”. This holiday season, SAM organised a fun-day dedicated to children and those young at heart on 10 Dec 2022.

SAM brought a carnival and festival to the Myanmar Agape Orphanage compound, which was also attended by children and staff from four other orphanages and Children’s Homes.

A total of more than 250 children participated in the festival, which included fun-fair games, bouncy castles, cotton candy, takoyaki and ice cream servers, lunch, art and craft booth and gift-giving.

SAM also provided each child with a gift backpack filled with school stationery, slippers, a water bottle, and an umbrella.

SAM Children’s Day was organised for the following charitable organisations:

Agape Child Development Centre
Living Children Home
Myanmar Agape Orphanage
Orphanage at St. Francis Convent
Vi Tha Khar (Nunnery Teaching Women School)

It gave us great joy and pride to bring love, happiness and care to the children from these 5 orphanages, and seeing the smiles on all their faces was heartwarming.

Essential Relief Food Pack Distribution On 26 November 2022

On 26 Nov, SAM donated and distributed bags of rice, cooking oil and instant noodle packets to the following 4 Orphanages and Childrens Homes in Hmawbi and Hlegu townships.

Myanmar Agape Orphanage – Established in 1996, it is currently looking after the social and educational well-being of 104 children. Upon graduation, the orphanage also helps them to find jobs and some stay on to teach and care for the younger children.
Agape Child Development Center – Established in 1995, it provides accomodation and care for 46 children.
Orphanage at St. Francis Convent – Established in 2009, it is currently looking after 33 children who are in need of a safe and nurturing environment and living conditions.
Living Children Home – Established in 1994, they are currently taking care of 7 children.

On 22 October 2022, Singapore Association of Myanmar (SAM) has again distributed essential and staple food items such as rice, cooking oil and instant noodles to another 3 beneficiary organisations, some of which SAM has been donating every year since 1994.

The 3 beneficiary organisations are:

Education Centre for the Blind
School for the disabled Children
Training School for Young Women

We believe in giving back to community and society and it has always been a heartbeat and backbone of SAM existence in Myanmar.

Essential Relief Food Pack Distribution On 8 October 2022

On 8 October 2022, Singapore Association of Myanmar (SAM) distributed essential and staple food items to 3 beneficiary organisations.

The 3 beneficiary organisations are:
1) Myanmar Women Development Association – Established in 1947, their core objectives are to provide home and care for homeless girls, provide education and groom the girls to be able to contribute back to their society in a positive way.
2) Catholic Home for the Aged – Established in 1923, they look after the elderly regardless of ethnic, race & religion.
3) School for the Blind – Established in the late 1990s, it provides academic and vocational training to blind students so that they can acquire the basic skills to care for themselves.

Their appreciation of our donations is indeed heartwarming and touching.
SAM will be donating food care packs to more beneficiary organisations that are in need of support in the coming months.
