Dear SAM Members and Friends,

A new school year has just begun, and it’s our time to assist schoolchildren on their educational path. In the outskirts of Yangon, numerous children lack access to bicycles or the ability to use public transportation, posing an additional challenge in their educational journey. To address this issue, together with Anywheel, in cooperation with Lesswalk.org, Singapore Association of Myanmar (SAM) will be holding its 3rd batch of bicycle donation “Changing Lives with Bicycle,” ensuring they have a reliable means of getting to school.

We will be donating 200 bicycle units to students (Grade 5 to 10) from Wards 153 and 154 of South Dagon Myo Thit Township and from Kamayut, Insein, Hlaing Thar Yar and Mingalardon Townships, Yangon. The donation handover ceremony will be held on 3 August 2024, at the Parish Hall, St Agustin Church, No. 64 Inya Road, Kamayut Township, Yangon.

In Ward 153 and 154 there are a series of cluster shanties estimated at 300 families. The locality has no power and no water with the nearest government school a 30 minutes’ walk one way.

This donation benefits not only the students and the community, but also the environment as we are promoting eco-friendly and convenient transportation solutions which will reduce congestion and lower carbon emissions.

Through this activity, we will be making a small investment towards the future of Myanmar, and we call on you or your organization’s generosity in making it a success.

We seek for your generous support in this donation for bicycles (MMK 200,000 per bicycle) and in addition, each student will receive a backpack with school supplies, water bottle & umbrella.

Joining us in this donation are confirmed donors: Yoma Bank, Grand Royal Group International, Tan Kheng He Peter, Melbourne Company Limited, Minn Naing Oo, Sridhar P.R and a SAM Member.

In addition, KBZ Bank also contributes 200 pcs of umbrellas for the students.
