Donation Drive to aid those affected by the recent floods in Myanmar
Dear Fellow Members,
As you may be aware, raging floods across Myanmar have forced tens of thousands of people from their homes in recent weeks as monsoon rains pummel the nation. The UN’s Office for Coordinated Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) estimates about 89,000 people have already been displaced.
The most severe flooding is currently in eastern Bago region and Mon and Karen states, according to the social welfare ministry. Shwegyin township itself in Bago region has been transformed into a vast lake of water and only the rooftops could be seen of many homes lining the Sittaung river.
SAM is taking the initiative to support the relief and recovery efforts of the affected communities and will be contributing US$10,000 for the cause.
We are working with the Myanmar Free Ambulance Foundation (MFA) who are assisting the Myanmar Community Foundation (MCF) and the Myanmar Red Cross for this particular relief effort.
The funds will be used to purchase relief goods such as dry foodstuff (instant noodles, canned food, biscuits), rice, salt, bottled water, water purification tablets and chlorine solutions, first aid kits and disinfectants and delivered to the MFA premises.
We would like to invite you to join us in this effort to literally save lives. You can contribute in cash or in kind (please ensure products are not expired for consumption) and you can do this at SAM’s Secretariat Office, 72B Chindwin Road, during office hours.
Thank you for responding to our call for help and SAM Exco thank you in advance for your support and generosity.
